What is PA (Personified Assistant)?
PA is both a development toolkit as well as an open, end-to-end architecture. It is used by consumer electronics companies and broadband service providers to offer consumers unified, intuitive, and instantaneous control of consumer electronics and Internet services from anywhere in their home. PA combines natural interfaces, such as speech recognition and visual displays, with life-like intelligent personas to enable a variety of pervasive home applications for communications, infotainment, and home automation. There are two key components to PA a natural, intuitive, and hands-free front-end and an intelligent back-end. Both components are crucial to solving gadget fatigue.

The Natural Front-End Embedded in hardware module
PA is designed to provide a "lean back" experience for the consumer. This means the person in the home has the ability to dialogue with an interface device from a distance of 10 to 15 feet while relaxing anywhere in the home. In some cases, this experience is supported by traditional interfaces such as visual and tactile modes to provide the optimal experience for a specific application (such as controlling the TV or accessing Internet content). The natural front-end is provided by the integration of several third-party and patent-pending technologies, including:
  • Conversational speech recognition with natural sounding voices
  • Biometric technologies, including always listening and speaker identification
  • Signal normalization, including background noise reduction and echo cancellation
  • A framework to provide pervasive multi-session control among various connected electronics and interface devices

The Intelligent Back-End
PA also provides a more enjoyable, stress-free experience for the consumer because it understands the preferences of the user based on knowledge of the person, the application, and the capabilities of the system and connected devices. This "personified intelligence" is assistive and engaging. It can tailor itself based on who interacts with it and it uses natural dialogue to allow the user to achieve a faster result. Several patent-pending technologies provide the intelligence:
  • Dialogue engine with context-based understanding
  • Content transformation engine
  • Application synchronization and coordination
  • Preference libraries

What is a Personica?
A personica is an application-specific intelligent assistant for home electronics and internet services. A Personica-Application has two key traits : a natural interface that allows you to dialogue with it, and an awareness of your preferences and the device or service you are trying to control. A Personica-Application combines these two traits to not only understand what you are saying, but also to understand what you want to do and the optimal way to present the information or response. With directions, email, or long lists, for instance, the display modes are better equipped than text-to-speech modes. Finally, a Personica has a friendly and intuitive persona that gives life-like intelligence to user-device interactions.
